PROGRAM HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
“God’s Miracle on Hickory Street”
TRAC, Inc., was founded in July 1978 to provide females in crises, a temporary shelter. In 1993, with a waiting list of 50 girls and only 16 beds available, the need for a new building was clear. Through the generosity of citizens throughout Middle Tennessee, “God’s Miracle on Hickory Street” became a reality in early 1994 with a current 23-bed facility.
Adolescence is a time filled with a variety of choices and consequences with each choice. When a teenager is ill equipped with the necessary resources to make healthy, productive choices, disruptive and/or self-destructive behavior often results. The adolescent in essence becomes the “flag-bearer” for her dysfunctional family system; for it was most likely in this system that the adolescent learned to cope in destructive or disruptive ways.
